Text Rudy Now!

In this episode of Talking Pools titled "Size Does Matter," Lee poses a crucial question to pool owners and service pros alike: "Is your pool too big for your equipment, or is your equipment too big for your pool?" The discussion dives into the importance of matching the right equipment size with pool dimensions, covering how improperly sized pumps, filters, or heaters can lead to inefficiency, wear, and poor water quality. Peter, Shane, and Lee break down how to assess pool size against equipment specifications, why it matters for energy efficiency and maintenance, and offer practical tips on choosing the best equipment for specific pool needs.

Peter: Welcome back to Talking Pools! Today, we’re diving into a big question – or maybe a big pool – but it’s all about size. Lee, you had a great way of putting it. Remind us what that question was?

Lee: Yeah, it's simple but crucial: Is your pool too big for your equipment, or is your equipment too big for your pool?

Shane: [laughs] I feel like we should be saying that in a dramatic movie trailer voice. But really, it’s something that gets overlooked, right?

Peter: Absolutely. So many times, we see people slap on a pump or a filter without realizing that it’s just not the right fit. And when that happens, you’re looking at a whole list of potential problems – not to mention a lighter wallet.

Lee: Let’s start with pumps. If you’re running a small pump on a large pool, you’re not going to be circulating water effectively, which means dirt, algae, and chemicals not doing their job.

Shane: And then, on the flip side, if you’ve got a pump that’s way too powerful, you’re probably just chewing through energy and putting extra wear on the equipment.

Peter: And let's not forget the filter. A big pump paired with a small filter can be a nightmare. You end up with overworked filters, more frequent cleanings, and let’s face it – that’s not the weekend plan any of us want.

Lee: Right. So, the big takeaway here is balance. There’s no one-size-fits-all solution. You’ve got to assess the pool’s volume, shape, and design and then match that with the right pump, filter, and even heater.

Shane: Yeah, and here’s a tip for any pros listening: Always check the equipment manufacturer’s recommendations. They’ll often provide flow rates, turnover rates, and all those good things. It’s a little more work up front, but it’ll save you and your clients a lot of headaches.

Peter: And for pool owners – this is where we step in as the experts. Don't hesitate to ask questions about why a particular piece of equipment is being recommended. A good service tech will explain why that specific pump or filter is the best fit for your pool.

Lee: So, in a nutshell, don’t ignore the question of size. If you’ve got a small pool, don’t go overboard. If you’ve got a big pool, don’t skimp. Properly sized equipment is going to save money, save time, and keep that pool sparkling.

Shane: Couldn’t have said it better myself. And, hey, if you’re unsure, get in touch with us. We’d love to hear what you’re working with, and you might even end up on the show!

Peter: Thanks for tuning in to Talking Pools, where size absolutely matters. We’ll catch you next time!
